Jaimie’s Joyride

A game for my sister-in-law, built around the things she enjoys.

About this project

I made Jaimie’s Joyride for my sister-in-law, Jaimie. She has cerebral palsy and an intellectual disability, and I wanted to make a game she specifically would enjoy.

That gave me a much better starting point than a list of features: colourful places to ride through, cats to find, family members appearing along the way, and a wheelchair-using heroine at the centre of it all.

The controls and pace can be adjusted, and a no-lose mode lets the ride keep going. I want the game to make room for how Jaimie plays. It is free on the App Store, without ads or purchases.

Made for Jaimie

The best brief for this game was a person I already knew.

My sister-in-law Jaimie has cerebral palsy and an intellectual disability. I wanted to make a game for her, about things she would actually enjoy, with controls and a pace that could suit her.

The September build has longer rides through colourful places, kittens to collect, outfits to choose and family members making little appearances. Jaimie is the heroine. Her wheelchair belongs in the adventure as naturally as everyone else does.

I have been paying attention to the small things: where a trail comes from, how a character moves, whether a button is easy to spot, and how much is happening on screen. No-lose play, adjustable speed and calmer effects give us ways to adapt the ride.

It is being shared with family through TestFlight. The intention is to keep it completely free, with no ads or in-app purchases.
