Climb the Tower

Let everyday movement become a long fantasy journey.

About this project

Climb the Tower turns everyday movement into a persistent fantasy ascent. Walking, cycling, paddling and tennis can support independent climbs or a mixed adventure, with Apple Health imports or a clearly labelled Private Journal.

The saved journey now extends across 99 floors. A traveller follows the mountain trail, completed landings keep their lights, and the full map opens at the current floor. Activity readings and earned ascent stay separate, so replaying the presentation cannot award progress twice.

I uploaded version 0.3.1 build 5 on 15 October. The upload succeeded, but I haven’t confirmed processing completion or tester availability. The opening has its alpine artwork; the wider realms still need their own full environments, and Health and Watch behaviour need more physical-device testing.

Along the way

Project notes

What’s changed, what I’m trying, and what comes next.

A longer climb, with somewhere to stand

A saved 99-floor journey, independent activity climbs and a mountain trail that follows the traveller’s progress.

I’ve expanded Climb the Tower into a saved 99-floor journey. Walking, cycling, paddling and tennis can support separate climbs or a mixed adventure. The mountain now follows the selected climb: the traveller moves along a winding trail, completed landings keep their lights, and the full map opens at the current floor.

Activity history and the adventure have separate jobs. Daily readings describe what was recorded; earned ascent stays earned. Replaying or skipping the climb’s presentation cannot award the same progress again. There are also richer workout histories, private journal memories and saved custom portraits.

I uploaded version 0.3.1 build 5 on 15 October. The upload succeeded, but I haven’t confirmed processing completion or tester availability. Health imports, Watch recovery and outdoor measurements still need physical-device testing. These screenshots show a prepared journal journey in the iPhone simulator on 15 October.

A journey in everyday movement

An iPhone fantasy RPG turns everyday movement into a persistent climb, with a traveller and a place to return to.

Climb the Tower began with the idea of making ordinary movement feel like a long adventure. Walking carries a traveller upwards; cycling and paddleboarding can join the journey too. Apple Health can supply the activity, while a separate Private Journal lets you enter it yourself. An Apple Watch companion can record workouts, but the watch is optional.

I want the place around that progress to matter. In Hearthroot you can light a lantern, meet the caretaker, open the workshop and make a room your own. There are companions, choices, little puzzles and things to do at camp on a rest day. The latest visual work brings a mountain sanctuary, illustrated travellers and warmer story and camp screens into the running app.

A long journey also needs dependable progress. Earned ascent stays earned when an activity record is later corrected, and replaying a recap cannot award the same movement again. I have been building the local save and recovery paths around that rule. Self-reported journal activity remains clearly labelled and is never written into Apple Health.

Version 0.1.0 build 2 went to internal TestFlight on 10 October. I’ve since been working on the artwork in my local build; these screenshots are from the iPhone simulator today. I still need to test Health imports, outdoor measurements and Watch recovery on physical devices. For now, I’ve concentrated on the opening journey while I build out the rest of the tower.
